What Happens If I Get Sick in Turkey?
Access to Health Services for Foreigners:
Foreigners staying temporarily in Turkey (for tourism, business, congress, etc.) can benefit from health services provided by public, university, and private health institutions during their stay in case of illness or emergency.
Emergency Health Services:
Emergency health services and patient transfers are provided for a fee.
However, Turkish citizens living abroad without any social security are entitled to free 112 emergency health services.
Treatment of Foreign Patients in Emergencies:
Foreign patients applying for emergency medical care must be admitted and treated immediately and unconditionally.
The collection of service fees is carried out after emergency care has been provided.
Health Services After Traffic Accidents:
In the case of traffic accidents, the cost of health services is covered by the Social Security Institution, regardless of the nationality or social security status of the person.
Patients cannot be directly charged for their treatment.
If the person has additional travel insurance, the treatment cost can be billed to the insurance company within the policy’s coverage.
